The Iomega range of network hard drives come configured as print servers that can handle most USB printers. Plug a supported USB printer into any USB port on the Iomega network drive to access the printer from any computer on the same office or home office network. Most printers should work as soon as you plug them in to the Iomega drive, but you can also connect to the printer manually if the 'plug and play' method doesn't work.
1.Plug the USB printer into a free USB port on the Iomega network drive.
2.Wait for the Event Log to display an onscreen message stating that the printer has been recognized. Windows should automatically detect and install the drivers necessary to operate the printer and the printer should work right away. However, you can also connect to the printer and install the printer drivers manually by following the next steps.
3.Right-click the Start button and then select 'Open Windows Explorer.'
4.Type '<StorCenter IP Address' into the Windows Explorer address bar at the top of the window. For example, type '192.168.1.254' but replace the IP address with the Iomega drive's IP address. If you don't know it, you can find out the drive's IP address by accessing your Internet router's Web-based administration screen and viewing all devices connected to the network.
5.Double-click the printer in the StorCenter's root folder that opens in the Window Explorer window.
6.Click the 'Yes' button in the 'Connect to Printer' dialog window.
7.Click the 'OK' button to launch the driver selection screen.
8.Click to select your printer driver, which is usually labeled with the printer's make and model number, and then click the 'OK' button. Windows displays the print queue for the connected printer in a new window and this shows that you've successfully set up and connected to the printer.
Tip
- For best results, Iomega recommends using a USB printer without multi-function features, such as a copier, scanner or fax.
Warning
- Information in this article applies to Windows 7. It may vary slightly or significantly with other versions or products.
